Poem: "Journey to Success"

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Journey to success is a poem that describes how one is successful. As he faces obstacles in life his path is determined. If he fails he picks up the pieces and tries again. He doesn't let pride stand in his way.

"Journey to Success"

Success is a matter of opinion

within one’s heart,

unique to each individual.

His path is determined

by the obstacles he faces,

challenging him toward new horizons.

When he fails,

he has the will to pick up the shattered pieces

moving forward with a stronger backbone.

His pride doesn’t stand in his way

as he begins his next journey,

towards success.

Absolutely true Brenda, a winner does not quit and a Quitter would not win. To win in life we've got to be dogged, determined, persevere, for even Jesus Himself, persevered and gave it all it takes to win in life. Good work ma.

Shauna,

I agree with you.

My parents did the same.

It is difficult sometimes but one must pull those boot straps up.

Take care.

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on October 18, 2020:

Brenda, I'm a firm believer in learning from my mistakes (or failures) and picking myself up by the bootstraps in order to forge ahead. All it takes is Positive Mental Attitude (PMA). My dad instilled that mindset in us kids as we were growing up. One of the best gifts a parent can bestow upon a child. It's a gift that keeps on giving.

Success is found the moment you understand the meaning of life. Nothing less and nothing more.

I don't believe that success can be measured by accomplishments, but in the struggle and courage it takes to achieve. A great poem Brenda - inspirational.

Asad Islam from Dhaka, Bangladesh on October 18, 2020:

within one’s heart,

unique to each individual."

The poem is very inspirational. And I like most of these stanzas. These are mind-blowing.

Ann,

I suppose it is courage but it's the only way to move forward.

Thanks for reading.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on October 17, 2020:

I like how you approached this poem regarding success. You are correct in writing that for each person, the definition may be different. Determination to go forward after failure is often the key to success.

Lora Hollings on October 17, 2020:

"If at first we don't succeed then we must try and try again." I love the spirit of your poem, Brenda. The most successful people have actually failed many times. We all have to get up and just keep trying! Look at how many times it takes babies to learn how to walk. They fall numerous times before they finally succeed. Great message!

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on October 17, 2020:

Brenda, we all need to be reminded that failing is a part of life, but we get back up and try again. I needed this piece of poetry today. Thank you.

Ann Carr from SW England on October 17, 2020:

It takes courage to stand up to adversity and succeed when you are determined, letting pride take second place.
