Poem: Intense Fever

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Fire on Fire" by Sam Smith

"Intense Fever"

She should have run
when her ears heard
the first lie from his lips.

Before her heart craved
this intense fever,
wanting his breath
upon every inch of her skin.

A longing she feels
deep inside her soul,
lacking any ability to follow
man's rules.

Her mind losing all control,
with her heart leading the way
down a road full of joyful excitement,
heartbreak, and pain.

Tuning a deaf ear to the words
spewing from his mouth,
waiting to touch
the passionate joy from his soul.

Jason,

Thank you so much!

Yes, that heart of ours can lead us down a hurtful path, but it's always exciting for a bit.

Where as thinking with your mind...is sometimes boring.

So delighted you enjoyed it as well as the video.

Have a great day.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on March 20, 2020:

Intense feelings can defeat any good reasoning. Your poetry tells that story so well.

Jason Nicolosi from AZ on March 20, 2020:

Beautifully written piece Brenda. I loved the line: "Her mind loses all control, with her heart leading the way" that line is so powerful. Often time our hearts can overtake our minds instinctive warnings and lead us into a bad situation. Love can be incredible, but it can also be incredibly painful.

Also, I enjoyed the music. Sam Smith is great.

Manatita44,

Thank you so much for your comment saying my words show deep insight or realities.

I am doing my best to stay safe.

May you and your family be safe also.

Should have ran ... yes, we all reflect on this, sometimes. The 'why did we' dances on our foreheads. I've written a piece about addiction, which can apply to so many situations!

I know its only a poem but that kind of feeling is expressed so well. In this chimera of life, stuff happens. Deep insight or realities in your poetry. Stay Safe!
