Poem: I Pray You Wake Up

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

poem-i-pray-you-wake-up

Like the twilight on a calm morning
to a thunderstorm raging,
you changed instantly.

No understanding,
I am left bewildered,
I do not recognize you,
it’s like watching a horror movie
waiting for the ending to be over.

I hope you find yourself,
before it is too late
to put the pieces of your life
back together.

I will always remember
the moments we shared,
thinking fondly of the man I once knew
but I will not acknowledge
the monster you have become.

I pray you wake up,
not for me
but for yourself,
hoping you discover
life has a lot more to offer.

Great way of presenting the feelings of someone confronted with an unexpected change of persona.

You pick out the good as well as the bad and that's not easy to do. Well done!

Sometimes it is only when someone walks away that the person will rethink and change. This is a very powerful poem, emotionally charged.

SARA from Islamabad on September 12, 2019:

In this poem I can feel the sadness. "I pray" has a strong emotion..we wanted our loved ones to stay near us. Any unpredictable change is heart breaking.

Thanks for sharing a wonderful poem.

Brenda, it is disturbing that someone we think we know well can suddenly change, seemingly overnight. a well-written poem.
