Poem: I Am Broken

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

I am broken tells the story of one who has a broken heart and is cast out into the world to start over. He does not like the world he is encountering and wishes he could go back to pretending his life was fine. He feels broken like Humpty Dumpty & knows he cannot be put back together again.

I Am Broken

I am broken into more pieces
than humpty dumpty,
no one can put me back together.

I hate this world
full of fake people,
I want to go backwards
to my pretend life,
the one where I am safe
existing in a dream world
living life the way it is meant to be.

I am too tired to start over,
my heart is bleeding
I want to hide in my shelter
where this is make-believe.

So here's the thing with broken hearts.

No matter how you try, the pieces never fit the way they did before.

A pretend world is safer not only when you're heart is broken.

One where you wear blinders over your eyes not seeing everything, because sometimes the ways of the world are just too much.

Yes, that is Sweet!!

I love how yiu reference the clock to make this analogy.

A touching poem, Brenda. When 'obe's heart is broken, one would wish to go back to the pretend time without any of these worries. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, Brenda, and God knows you have cause to be. Yet you're not. The Light continues to shine in heaven, even when shadows are dense, sunset comes, but it is always followed by dawn and another sunrise.

Clocks break, no matter how costly or sentimental, yet the inner clock continues to tick. Ain't that sweettt?" Chuckle. Impactful piece on a common experience

Patricia,

I thank you for your heartfelt kindness.

Yes there is joy among the sadness.

It comes and goes...for now it is something I must endure, a process to get to where I need to be.

Thank you for sending angels.

May your day be wonderful.

O hoping someone can 'unbreak' your heart. Find your joy and move on. No doubt there is much waiting for you. Angels are headed your way this morning ps

I think your poem reminds us of the sadness of being hurt and creating a place where hurt does not exist in our minds. Poignant and beautifully penned Brenda.
