Poem: Heartstring Moments

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Heartstring moments is a poem about someone from her past contacting her. For a brief moment she remembers touching moments the two of them shared. As a tug of war ensues within her heart she realizes she doesn't want to repeat the mistakes from the past.

Heartstring Moments

Voices left behind

knock upon the door,

secretly haunting her with images

of moments once forgotten.

For a brief second,

a sparkle of happiness

comes across her face,

guiding her heart

towards stars touched

so many moons ago.

A tug of war

plays on her heartstrings,

convincing her not to slip backwards

repeating her past mistakes.

John,

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I think this does hit people when they least expect it...making it tempting. Slipping backwards can seem so innocent.

But it's best to leave the mistakes in the past. Been there ...done that kind of mentality is necessary to stop the temptation.

Take care.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on February 08, 2021:

Yes, I agree with Alyssa, very poignant. It is very easily to slip back into past mistakes if the opportunity arises, especially if our current situation isn’t great. Sometimes you think, “What if...?” And are tempted to take a risk, but it is usually safer not to. Nice work, Brenda.

Manatita44,

Thank you.

I imagine there is an endless cycle for many to be tempted.

But i find putting the my foot forward works best.

Take care.

Life's struggle. It can take eons to triumph over our temptations. Thoughts grow, like seeds, on the mental plane, and there's always an endless battle going on. Loving wishes.

Peggy,

Thank you.

Time does seem to change us, but for that split second one only remembers the good times.

Thankfully...there's that piece of sanity that wins.

Take care & have a great day.

Bill,

You are right. It is great that one's sanity returns...otherwise he would be on one heck of a rollercoaster.

I hope you & Bev have a great week too.

Pamela,

Thank you.

The road less traveled is usually the better one.

Move forward in life for there is much more to see.

I'm glad you enjoyed the videos too.

Thanks & have a nice day.

Rosina,

Thank you.

We all have our past come to greet us once in awhile.

I'm glad you liked this one.

Stay safe & enjoy today.

It is a good thing when sanity prevails. People change over the years, and rarely would it be the same experience as in the past, in any case.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on February 08, 2021:

Oh my, I can relate. It's amazing how those moments just sneak up on us. Thankfully they retreat and sanity is restored. :) Loved the poem and wishing you a wonderful week.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on February 08, 2021:

It is never good to repeat our mistakes. Your poem is perfect in that it tells us not to go backwards, Brenda. Your music picks are also perfect for your poetry. Very well done, Brenda.

Rosina S Khan on February 08, 2021:

Yes, events like that happen in our lives. God tests us from time to time. I am so glad she chose to forget the past and not repeat the mistakes. Wonderfully written. Thanks for sharing, Brenda
