Poem: Happy Mother’s Day to a Most Amazing woman

I love poetry. I am a voracious reader and am passionate about writing. I have recently started my foray into poetry.

Happy Mother’s Day to a Most Amazing woman

Happy Mother’s Day to a Most Amazing woman

Mother's Day and the Pandemic

This Pandemic has taught us the true value of the selfless love of our mothers. While many have the good fortune of physically being with their mothers to wish them, gift them and show their gratitude, there are numerous others who are not able to do so.

But they have found their mother figures in myriad forms during these challenging times. It may be the ones who made us feel less lonely during isolation through constant phone calls, the domestic help, the delivery boys who brought us hot food, the good Samaritans and caretakers who pitched in and brought us groceries, medicines and other forms of support when we were sick.

There is no influence so powerful as that of the mother

— Sara Josepha Hale

This Mother's Day is Different

This Mother’s Day let us pay tribute to those women who have stood by us during these stressful times, giving emotional and social support acting like guardian angels to help get over the calamity. They gave us hope showering us with love and care without expecting anything in return. They have been a source of strength and comfort during these uncertain times helping others in distress in whatever way they can.

This Mother’s Day let us celebrate those who took care of us, loved us, and protected us like a mother during the pandemic.

There is no role in life that is more essential than that of motherhood.

— Elder M. Russell Ballard

The Poem is About

This poem is about a girl who wishes to convey her gratitude to her sister who has done much more than a mother for her during this time. She has supported her, been there for her in every possible way during the quarantine. She wishes to express her love and gratitude to her through words.

You have been my mom

When my mom was not around

You have taken care of me

When I needed it the most.

You have supported me

In every decision I made

At the cost of facing

Our dear father’s wrath.

You have been my friend

In whom I could confide

And pour my heart out

I cant imagine a life

My life Without you.

You made your home a cozy home

for me during quarantine

Feeding me delicious food

And fulfilling my every need.

Thank you for everything

For all the love, the laughter

The wisdom, the strength

And for just being you.

You are not just a sister

But a blessing sent by god

I will never ever forget

All that you have done for me.

I wish you on this day

A happy Mother’s Day

Because dear sister

You are the true mother to me.

Thanks Chitrangada for your nice comments. In this pandemic many people have helped others who are away from home and who are in distress, taking care of their every need just like a mother would do. We need to express our gratitude to these pandemic mom's, this Mother's Day.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on May 10, 2021:

This is heartfelt and I loved the sentiments expressed through your narration and the poem.

Motherhood can be in so many forms, and your poem is a tribute to all those, who may not be one’s biological mother, but they do everything a mother does.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful article. Have a good week.

Thanks Nithya. Yes my sister is wonderful. Difficult times here with lock down due to the devastating second wave. Hope it ends soon. Stay blessed

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on May 09, 2021:

A beautiful poem, you have a wonderful sister. She must love you and care for you very much. Take care and be safe and praying for the lockdown to end soon,

VIDYA D SAGAR (author) on May 09, 2021:

Yes Brenda, the second wave is going on here and is quite aggressive. It's so scary reading about it in the newspapers. Luckily we had both doses of the vaccine. Now there seems to be a shortage of vaccines too and many are yet to take. And we take all precautions.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on May 09, 2021:

I didn't realize you were on lockdown...they did away with ours for now.

But it's best to stay safe.

Glad you can communicate with phones.

I guess technology has it's benefits.

VIDYA D SAGAR (author) on May 09, 2021:

Thanks Brenda. Yes we had a good day. Now as it is not possible to meet anyone due to the lock down, we talk on the phone for ages. Sibling love keeps us balanced during this isolation. Have a great day, stay safe, stay blessed.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on May 09, 2021:

This is a delightful write.

The gratitude and love you have for your sister shines through.

I hope you both had a blessed day.

Thanks Misbah for your nice comments. My elder daughter takes such good care of her younger sister. She is more like a mother to her than me. Your brothers are so fortunate to have such a loving sister like you. Your mom must be proud of you. Happy Mother's Day to you and your mother. Stay blessed.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Poets on May 09, 2021:

Vidya, you have paid a beautiful tribute to your sister. In Pakistan, we say elder sister is like a mother. Sadly, I don’t have one, but I am glad that you have. Yes, my brother says I love him and cherish him like a mother. My mother always says that she likes me when I care my younger brothers. In short, I am a proud elder sister.. lol..May God bless you and your loved ones. Happy Mother’s Day!!

Thanks Sridhar for the visit and the wonderful comments. I very much appreciate it. I am honored. I created this poem on an impulse. Wasn't actually planning on it. When I saw the selfless and humane work that so many people are doing here to help the victims of the pandemic, I wanted to express gratitude through this poem. Your inspirational words sure encourage me to continue to write. Thanks again. Stay safe, stay blessed.

What a tribute to Mother on Mother's Day by Vidya.... Amazing, Apt and Awesome.... So excellently brought out by you that my mind recalls a quote: Mother is the heartbeat in the home and without Mother there seems to be no heart beat...So true it is and more so in testing times of the Pandemic. How Mothers all over have held together her children and homes when everything seems to be falling apart...

Excellent poem and tribute to Mother by Vidya... Pray continue doing the great work.... Without your poem, Mother's day could not be complete... Kudos and Best wishes for more poems to follow.

Thanks Liz. I appreciate your nice comments. During this Pandemic we have seen kindness and care in many forms. We have come across people who have shown love, protection and care just like a mother does to her children. This poem is a form of gratitude to all those people who have mothered others who are in need of care and support during this time. Have a great day, stay blessed.
