Poem: Grabbing Life

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Grabbing life is a poem about how watching kittys put on a cartoon show can teach one to grab life by the horns.

They leap and pounce, running through the house enjoying each moment.

Just like the kitty cats we can seize each moment and choose to live with happiness.

Grab life by the horns and make each day happy.

Grabbing Life

Tiny fur balls

put on a cartoon show

leaping about the floor,

filling the room with laughter

to begin the day.

Pouncing their little paws

as they run through the house

playing catch and chase

happily, as they stop

to bat a catnip mouse.

Teaching us life can be simple

if we seize the moment without a cluttered mind,

grabbing life by the horns

making good choices for our day.

Lora,

I love your comment.

A true animal lover can definitely understand the lessons they teach us.

I need to not take things so seriously...but I guess I need to watch the kitties play some more.

Take care & have a Happy New Year!

Such a sweet and meaningful poem about the kitties and what they can teach us, Brenda. Cats can teach us many things- to give life our best effort and then if something doesn’t work out, try something else but always go at it with much zeal. I love to watch my cats play as well as my dogs. They certainly teach us to live in the present and not take ourselves too seriously!

Peggy,

Thank you so much!

The kitties have a way of melting my heart.

Happy New Year!

You have portrayed the playfulness of kittens beautifully. Yes, we can all use reminders to grab the gusto of life on occasion. It is easy to fall into a daily pattern. Happy New Year, Brenda.

Pamela,

Yeah...it happens to the best of us. I forget also.

But the kittys remind me it time to give myself a break and start grabbing onto what's important.

Take care.

Rosina,

Thank you.

I can learn alot from them....mostly how to relax and have fun.

Take care.

Wonderful message in your poem. The title is great. I liked going through, and I try to follow this in my life. Though, it is difficult to so, at least sometimes.

Thank you for sharing this. Wishing you a great week.

This is a great message to begin the new year. The kittens were a cute example of grabbing life. I feel like I have done that most of my life but I have been kind of lazy at times this year, so I'll work on a better attitude for 2021. Thanks, Brenda.

Rosina S Khan on December 28, 2020:

Yes, kitties can really teach us how to live simply moment to moment just like children. We need to learn and relearn from them occasionally. A very cute poem, Brenda.

A Very Happy New Year!

Ann,

Sometimes we just get caught up in everything on our to do list...then we forget to just grab life.

Have a great day.

Happy New Year!

Manatita44,

We can learn alot by watching the spontaneity of children and animals.

They live in the moment.

Happy New Year!

Bill,

Thank you.

I think we all can get a little too comfortable......easy to do.

Have a nice day.

A great philosophy to follow - how can we lose?! I think I do that most of the time but I need a kick-start occasionally!

Happy New Year, Brenda!

There's such beauty in spontaneity, like the child. Combining this with vigilance and diligence is awesome! Great teachers! Happy New Year!!

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on December 28, 2020:

I love the message. Truth be told, I can be complacent at times. I get too comfortable, and that means I'm not living up to my potential. Thanks for the reminder, Brenda!
