Poem: Getting Acquainted

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Getting acquainted is a poem about him not being aware of her teardrops, or the pain in her heart nor understanding how hard it is for her to accept his friendship. She feels a sense of relief getting to know one another in this playful moment with the fur babies as he prepares dinner for two.

"Getting Acquainted"

He doesn’t see the teardrops
hidden in her eyes,
he doesn’t feel the pain
seared deep in her heart,
he doesn’t realize the strength it takes her
to accept his friendship.

In this awkward moment,
he eases her distress
with cuddles from the fur babies,
putting a twinkle of happiness
back into her life,
as he cooks dinner for two.

She smiles with relief,
thankful for this playful moment,
getting to know one another
the way it should be,
from the beginning.
