Poem: Funny How Things Change

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Things Change" by Dwight Yoakam

poem-funny-how-things-change

Funny how things change,
one minute she is the love of his life,
he cannot imagine life without her,
then in a blink of an eye
his desire changes.

He claims to love their life together
saying how good she is for him,
then suddenly he wants nothing to do with her
And walks away.

It’s hard for her to imagine
what changed him in such a short time,
how his love could simply die
without warning.

Funny how things change,
one minute she loved him with all her heart,
she could not imagine life without him,
then in a blink of an eye
her desire changes.

Her heart feels nothing but emptiness,
realizing he is not the man she trusted with her heart
knowing his love was not real,
she locks the door.

Thank you Bill. I appreciate your kind words.

Yes, the consensus is the door should remain open.

Avoiding the pain feels better but i suppose isolation is no cure.

So delighted you like my work.

Thank you.

Kari,

Yes, I can see this happening. It seems easier to build the wall and lose the key.

Leaving the door open is difficult but it is the only way to one's survival.

Thank you for your wonderful words.

Ms Dora,

I suppose you are right! She doesn't want to miss out on the right Man.

Maybe she will open it up a crack ..just to look out.

Thank you. You make me smile!

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on November 15, 2019:

And locking the door may make her miss out on the man that's right for her. It happens. So real!

Kari Poulsen from Ohio on November 15, 2019:

Be careful with locked doors. I say this from experience . . . first you lose the key, then the door becomes part of the wall and you can lose yourself.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on November 15, 2019:

Well hopefully she unlocks that door soon. Life is too short to live it in isolation, hoping to avoid pain. Well done! You are a poetry-writing machine...with a heart. :)
