Poem: Forgotten Moments

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"How Memories Form and How We Lose Them" by Catharine Young

poem-forgotten-moments

Looking back through pictures,
my baffled mind cannot recall
the faces, nor the words inscribed,
only fragments of a hidden puzzle
I lost long ago.

Memories I thought would last,
friendships I trusted for life
now lost in time,
leaving behind only a sketchy clue
of what those days were like.

I wish an image
would flash back from the past
deciphering these keepsakes,
easing my bewildered consciousness.

Ms. Dora,

So sorry to hear about your mother. It is so difficult to watch those suffering with alzheimer's...as well as the people close to them whose heart breaks.

Thank you for reading.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on November 21, 2019:

This poem brought back memories of my mother who was an Alzheimer's victim. I think you described her feelings. Sometimes she forgot that my son had a son; her only great grandson and we would have to remind her who he was. Forgotten moments, alright!

Such a poignant poem Brenda which made me think of how people with dementia must feel. My Dad had dementia and found it impossible to remember his own family in our collection of photos.
