Poem: Dying Thoughts

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Dying thoughts is about drifting in and out of consciousness on his death bed. His feelings are mixed with sadness and joy. He wants to accomplish more, fearing what lies ahead. Memories play within his mind wondering if he will remember them when he leaves. He knows his loved ones will treasure them for a lifetime.

"Dying Thoughts"

Drifting in and out
of consciousness,
leaving one life
to enter another,
feelings of sadness
mixed with joy.

No desire to leave
the ones he loves,
a wish in his heart
to accomplish more,
a fear of what lies ahead
embodies his mind with images.

Anxiously awaiting death's grip
memories playing vividly in his mind,
pondering treasures
wondering if they will be lost,
knowing the ones he leaves behind
can cherish keepsakes
until the end of time.

Thank you.

Memories definitely help the ones left behind cope with their loss & carry on with their life.

As for if we can remember after we are gone...I don't know.

It could be like a baby being born.

I don't remember anything from when I was a baby. Not until like 2 or 3.

Food for thought anyways.

Enjoy your day.

I've always wondered about that question too. This is a sad yet a hopeful poem. I think you did a very fine job in describing what goes through the mind of someone who is close to death and his final thoughts. I think it is rather a consoling thought that we can leave behind something of ourselves that our loved ones can treasure until the end of their lives come too.

Thank you, John.

It is hard to know for certain, but these were the thoughts which came to my mind.

Thank you for reading.

Brenda, I think you captured very well the thoughts of someone who is about to depart this physical life. I imagine those would be the thoughts going through my mind should the time come.
