Poem: Deceitful Love

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Cold Hearted" by Paula Abdul

poem-deceitful-love

He lures me in
with those magic eyes,
his tender-loving ways,
telling others I am his gal,
awe, the flattery and praise.

Texting me for hours
more than anyone before,
rushing home from work,
anxious like a school boy with desires
making me feel like a princess.

Playing each card with his unique style
hoping to trap me in his web,
convincing me of his ultimate love
believing his words are true,
trusting he wants only me.

Faithful and loyal woman
tending to his needs
accepting the role of housekeeper,
cook and everything in between,
leaving him responsible
only to go to work.

Where his wandering eye moves freely,
his fingers texting others
claiming to be too busy
to send a message,
leaving me clueless of his deceptive game.

Where he is cold hearted
caring only for himself,
seeking pleasure with fantasies
hoping to make them real,
with no worry of being faithful
since I will not know.

Mark,

Thank you for your words. It is so hard to understand how someone can be so toxic and have no feelings for the ones they hurt.

I guess in their case love is truly blind. They will never see it.

Thank you for reading.

Lorna,

I thank you. You had told me before you worked with narcissist victim's, so I trust your knowledge on this matter.

Thanks for reading.

Mark Tulin from Ventura, California on October 31, 2019:

A toxic person. These people will never change no matter how much love you give them. A poem that captures his dishonorable essence.

Lorna Lamon on October 31, 2019:

Your poem is an honest description of narcissistic behaviour and how toxic it can be. It is indeed a 'Deceitful Love'. Well written Brenda.
