Poem: Dealing With Loss

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Dealing with loss is a poem about how she feels when she has lost someone close to her. She pretends she is fine as she hears the well meaning words and feels the embraces of others. But she wants to hide away beneath the covers, flipping through the pictures in her mind.

Dealing With Loss

The heartache of losing a loved one

rips her inner soul to shreds,

tears fill her mournful eyes

as she focuses on words left unsaid.

Pictures flash across her mind

taking her on a trip down memory lane,

bringing her a few brief moments of joy

while she stands still pretending she is fine,

tears stream down her cheeks

as she wishes for time to turn backwards.

Her ears hear the well meaning words

trying to comfort her with warm embraces,

as others reach out with a shoulder to lean upon

but today she doesn’t feel like being strong,

she only wants to run and hide,

to curl up beneath the covers,

and flip through the pictures in her mind.

Nithya,

Thank you.

It is definitely a difficult time.

Sometimes you just want to scream but yet you stand there being polite.

Grief is a burden one must bear...no one else can actually do it for them.

Have a great day gal!

Ankita,

Thank you so much!

I tried to capture the feelings inside my own bones as I wrote this one...thinking of just how I would feel.

Take care.

Chitrangada,

It is so difficult to accept the fact that someone is gone. Let alone the millions of questions people ask...sometimes you just want to hide.

Take care.

This was a heartfelt and well expressed poem, BRENDA.

It's so difficult to recover from the loss of life of a dear one. A part of our lives is also lost, and there are only memories left.

Thank you for sharing and take care.

Thank you.

There is always fear & grief...I wish that part would not exist.

John,

Thank you.

I am glad my words capture this feeling.

I think sometimes we just don't want to deal with all the questions...maybe hiding beneath the covers gives one time alone to grieve.

Have a great day.
