Poem: Daily Ritual

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

"Daily Ritual" is a poem describing how one is in a constant rush in the mornings.

Tacking his to do list until quitting time, then starting his journey back home.

Daily Ritual

A constant rush in the morning,

jumping in and out of the shower,

tossing on clothes,

glancing at the hands on the clock

silently telling him to hurry.

Grabbing necessities as he steps out the door,

sitting behind the steering wheel

fumbling with the car keys starting the ignition,

pressing his foot on the pedal

beginning his destination.

Not a moment of rest in his weary day,

juggling his to do list,

as he waits for that moment

when the hour hand points to quitting time,

when he starts his journey back home.

Thank you.

It would be great if everyone could do a job they enjoy.

Have a wonderful day.

Yes Brenda. You're right. Yet as someone pointed out, this is true for most of us

Struggle is necessary, so we need to find a way to cope with it. For some of us, work is a blessing ... a joy. Makes it easier with that mindset. But yes, I know what you mean.

I think most of us can relate to the business of mornings, especially on work days. Good one, Brenda!

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on September 13, 2021:

Bill

Thank you.

I do believe you follow a routine.

There are days I wish I could keep my schedule on track, but I hate rushing around.

I've always been the one they say would be late for her own funeral.

Have a great week.

Keeping busy is a wonderful idea, as long as it doesn't control us constantly.

I'm so glad I can do things a bit more gradual now.

Take care.

That is so true.

So often we forget to take time out to enjoy those little things right in front of us.

Have a great day.

I am a man of ritual, so I could relate quite well to this fine poem.

Nice poem, Brenda describing the busy routine of working men/women.

I was also (sort of) one of them a little more than six years back - going to the college and teaching, working on research projects ….

Now working and busy, but not rushing around due to job schedules ….

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on September 12, 2021:

Nice poem, as the quote says time isn’t everything. We must take time to enjoy life and live every moment to the fullest.

Time is money and it's running out. We must race against the clock to catch it. This is probably Monday. ;) ahh it's here again.

Blessings and love to you, dear Bredz

Been there, done that! I’m over it. Good poem, Brenda. You describe the working person’s daily grind very well.

A few years ago, your poem would have been describing my Sunday afternoon thoughts about Monday. You described it perfectly.
