Poem: Chattering Kittys

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Chattering kittys is a poem about how a squirrel comes onto the patio deck taunting the kitty-cats stuck inside the house behind the door.

With their ears pointed and eyes focused on the squirrel. They anxiuosly stalk a prey they cannot get to because they are trapped behind the door.

Chattering Kittys

A short peep turns her attention

to her furry whisker friends

excitedly staring out the patio glass door.

Their tiny mouths half open

chattering a chirp like sound

with ears pointed,

bright eyes squarely focused

on an auburn-colored squirrel

sitting on the patio deck eating a nut.

Instead of running for shelter

in the comfort of a nearby tree,

he quietly, sits eating,

taunting the kitty-cats on purpose.

BBYCGN,

Nah, kittys are wonderful.

I love them.

In this case...it was the squirrel.

Yes, kitties can be really obnoxious little creatures.

Nithya,

Thank you.

I think you are right.

It's kinda like the squirrels sit out there laughing.

Sometimes they come right up to the glass window.

Take care.

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on March 06, 2021:

A sweet poem. The squirrels are having the time of their lives taunting the kittys.

Ruby,

Thank you.

Squirrels are alot of fun.

Just be careful, I had a neighbor who feed the squirrels nuts from his hand.

One day he quit...and they jumped onto his window screens trying to get his attention.

Needless to say..the screens got damaged and his wife was scared if them after that, but they are cute.

Take care.

When we had indoor cats, the squirrels had fun taunting them with their antics. I can definitely relate to your poem.

I enjoyed this little ditty! I have a squirrel who lives in an oak tree in my front yard. I try to make friends with him, but he's fearful and always scampers up the tree. He eats the acorns at night on the porch, which I sweep every morning. He is so much fun to watch...

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 05, 2021:

Misbah,

Thank you.

I had not heard that it is a sign of goodluck, but since kittens are so cute...I can see why.

Glad you enjoyed this one.

Have a great day.

Pamela,

Thank you.

I honestly believe these squirrels tease the kitty-cats.

They come right up to the patio door glass.

Glad you like it.

Take care.

Louise,

Well, I'm sure there is a cat or dog nearby that the little squirrel is taunting.

I think they love it!

Our backyard here is full of squirrels. The neighbors trees seem to be their homes.

Take care.

Shauna,

Thanks!

Kitty cats are so much fun!

It's like watching a cartoon all day long.

At one time i had 10 indoor & 10 outdoor cats.

I was very much into getting the cats fixed and releasing them out into the community.

Now I only have 2...but they live at my boyfriend's house.

They make me smile all the time.

Glad you enjoyed this one.

Take care.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Poets on March 05, 2021:

Brenda, it's a lovely poem

I like cats very much

in my childhood, a cat gave birth to three kittens in our home

My mother says it's a sign of good luck

I enjoyed the read

Thanks for sharing

Blessings

Cats are fun to watch and sometimes I just wondered what was going through his head. If a squirrel finds food he will eat and not care about a cat that cannot get to him. This is a really cute poem, Brenda.

Louise Powles from Norfolk, England on March 05, 2021:

That's a lovely poem, Brenda. My sister gets a squirrel in her garden every day, but she doesn't have a cat lol.

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on March 05, 2021:

Cats are such entertaining creatures, Brenda. I have three indoor cats and two outdoor cats. They're fun to watch. My cats have different meows for various ways of expressing themselves and "talking" to me. I can't imagine not having felines in my life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Have a great day!

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 05, 2021:

Bill,

Wow! I couldn't imagine a cat not caring about a squirrel, but I'm sure Maggie & Tobi want to go after them.

Take care & have a nice day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 05, 2021:

Dora,

Thank you.

I always smile whenever I watch my kittys.

Have a nice day.
