Poem: Bumpy Road

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Bumpy road is a poem about a couple facing obstacles on the pathway of love. They hold onto one another letting their passion guide them past the rugged trails. They face each struggle with their feet planted firmly on the ground as they wait for a new chapter to begin.

"Casting Crowns - Broken Together "

Bumpy Road

Encountering a long, narrow road

full of potholes and ruts,

they tightly grasp hold of one another.

Passionate flames of love

guide them along life's rugged trail,

waiting in the darkness

for a new chapter to unfold.

Facing each struggle

with a sense of contentment,

having one another’s back,

standing with their feet

planted firmly on the ground.

We'll inevitably face challenges in life. The best defense is believing that we are strong, we will survive, and we will be better for it.

Eku jaat,

Thank you for stopping by & commenting.

The road in life is never as smooth as we would like it to be.

Making it an adventure & sharing it together does make it easier.

Have a great day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on February 06, 2021:

Vidya,

Thank you.

I believe you are correct.

If you have someone in your corner, facing the struggles in life seem easier.

Take care & have a great day.

So true Brenda. We all face bumpy roads in life. But with an understanding companion, one can face the challenges and come out successful and stronger ready to face any obstacle. We enjoy the ride when we think of it as an adventure.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on February 05, 2021:

Rosina,

Thank you for such a touching response.

You have a sincere heart.

I appreciate your kind words. I know your friendship is real & that touches my heart.

We all have bumpy roads that hit us.

I pray your life can overcome anything that crosses your path.

We are doing great.

We are hoping this virus will dissipate with the vaccine so we can plan a once in a lifetime adventure.

Take care.

After reading all the comments and your replies, I am deeply touched and moved, Brenda. Sudden and unexpected tears from my eyes dropped. I am sure you and your partner are doing quite well despite a bumpy road ahead. I wish you both very well. God bless!

Peggy,

You are so right!

There are times I wish I could see it..maybe in a glowing ball that tells me how to prepare.

But life is fun...the ups & the downs.

Always an adventure if we let it be.

Take care.

Liz,

Thank you.

Yes, the road in one's life can be bumpy...but that's how we get to where we are supposed to be.

Take care.

We never know what the road ahead may be, which is probably a good thing.

Vanita,

I like your analogy...a brook that flows over a rocky path.

Bumps along the way keep life interesting.

Take care.

Liz Westwood from UK on February 04, 2021:

The analogy of life with a road is a good one. Sadly it can often be bumpy.

Manatita44,

Yes, I think I know those inner bumps in life quite well.

My feet seem to stumble across many pathways of my heart.

The lessons that come back to me are worth the reason.

My partner is doing quite well. As long as his stubborn pride keeps showing, I know he is good.

Strength, determination, & inner love get us through each day.

Thank you for asking.

May peace surround our hearts...even amiss the turmoil.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on February 04, 2021:

Ann,

You got that right!

I know we are all holding on across the globe.

I sure hope the road is beautiful after this one.

Take care.

Your poem is like the singing brook that flows over rocky path - here, the bumpy road of your life .... best wishes. Take care.

Pamela,

Thank you.

Good times and bad times seem to make one's love a bit stronger.

I doubt if a relationship could exist without both of them.

I am delighted you like this one.

Take care.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on February 04, 2021:

Bill,

Thank you.

To answer your question..."I doubt it!"

I have not encountered that smooth road either.

It is a lovely thought...that smooth road.

But I doubt it would be fun at all and it would take away all those soft cuddles afterwards.

Have a fantastic day.

Sweet!! So much of life is like that! But two couples trying is an extra boon. Sleeping policemen are bumps on the road to slow the traffic down. I don't see too many these days.

Metaphorically, they can also imply the inner bumps of life. Do you know them? Much Love, Brenda. How is your partner?

Ann Carr from SW England on February 04, 2021:

Bit of a bumpy road at the moment, isn't it? Let's hope we can all hold together and ride it out.

Relationships that can last the bumpy road are strong indeed.

One thng I have said for a while is good times and bad times come and go. We all have bumpy roads at times, and the way you hang together means so much. You have reflected all of those times in the poem, Brenda. It is another very good poem.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on February 04, 2021:

Is there such a thing as a smooth road in a relationship? If so, I've never traveled it. :) As always, I loved the poem. Well done!
