Poem: " Building Treasures to Last"

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Building treasures to last is about someone chasing his dreams hoping to build a lifetime of memories before fate deals it's hand.

Living life in the moment treasuring each precious minute.

Fearing the hands of time is moving too fast.

"Building Treasures to Last"

Chasing dreams
like lightning in a storm,
building treasures
to last a lifetime.

Living in the moment,
not ready for fate
to deal it’s hand,
praying to make this precious time
last a moment longer.

Tears of sadness fills her heart
as the hands of time keep moving.

Kyler,

I wish there were moments we could stop the hands of time, but I guess life is supposed to be bittersweet now & then.

I can tell this one is not one of your favorites, but thank you for taking your time to read it.

Enjoy each moment with your son.

Kyler J Falk from Corona, CA on September 13, 2020:

This is a struggle I think we can all relate to, especially myself. A bit bittersweet, however, as you sit and look at the treasures you have gathered only to realize the hands of time never stopped. Working hard, day in and day out, trying to take every moment of rest and celebration for what it is, and still the hands of time spin.

My son is my motivation to ignore the hands of time, and to keep that bitterness out of the sweet experiences of life.

A lovely poem, Brenda!

Nithya,

Sometimes we fail to live in the moment & only make plans to do things in the future.

Living in the moment is better since we do not know what is around the next corner.

So glad you like this one.

Have a great day!

Even in the race against time, the thought of building something to last is motivating. Good lines!

Liz,

Life does seem to speed up when we get older, but I feel like we all need to start living life in each moment.

No one knows what is around the corner.

Have a great day.

Chitrangada,

Thank you.

I am so happy you understand that living in the moment is what is most important.

Life can throw us curve balls when we least expect them.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on August 20, 2020:

Diana,

One really cannot count on the future to be there.

The best laid plans can be ruined in an instant.

At least with living life in the moment you can appreciate what you are doing.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on August 20, 2020:

Lorna,

Thank you so much.

It is so true that no one knows where life will lead them.

I think living in the moment is a great way & attitude to have these days.

As we get older life seems to speed up I sometimes think. You make an interesting point in this poem.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on August 20, 2020:

Well expressed poem and an important message.

It's the present moment, which is most valuable.

Thanks for sharing this inspiring poem.

Diana Carol Abrahamson from Somerset West on August 20, 2020:

Watching the minutes and rather living them, rather than hoping for the future, all the time.Heartfelt poem, Brenda.

Lorna Lamon on August 20, 2020:

You never know where life will take you, so living in the moment and making each one count is good advice. I loved this poem Brenda and the music videos.
