Poem: Awkward Silence

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Awkward silence is a poem about how she feels when there is nothing she can do but stand beside him hoping he realizes he can count on her for support.

When one receives life changing news it is a hard road to travel. Other people mean well but often say the wrong words or run the other way.

Awkward Silence

Her heart aches

watching him cross this path,

a loss too heavy to bear

with a heart full of grief.

As he focuses on unspoken words

memories flash within his mind,

tears steadily adorn his cheeks

wishing for a few more moments.

Standing firm like a stone wall

with a pretend smile,

politely answering questions

when he wants to scream.

Facing this alone

diligently trying to be strong,

understanding others good intentions

with words spoken wrong.

Her heart breaks in pieces

not knowing how to comfort him,

sitting in awkward silence,

hoping he knows

she is there.

Bill,

Thank you.

It's harder to deal with when it is someone else. You feel helpless.

When you face tough times yourself a voice speaks to you from the inside that carries you through.

Have a great day.
