Poem: Addicted Love

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Addicted Love"

He wants her so bad,
he can feel her lips
consuming every inch
of his body.

He is suffocating,
wanting to be free,
but he feels an invisible force
pulling him back,
addicted to her love.

He loves her, he hates her,
there is no in between,
he cannot break free
from her chains.

She wants him so bad,
she can feel his tongue
tasting the honey
from her body.

She’s tired of his lies,
wanting to be free,
but she feels an invisible force
pulling her back,
addicted to his love.

She loves him, she hates him,
there is no in between,
she cannot break free
from his chains.

She says it’s too little, too late,
he says come on let’s play,
they let passion
rule the day.

Amani,

There are 2 songs.

I think they both reflect the words of poem.

Have a great day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 30, 2020:

Mitara,

Thank you.

No, I doubt that we are ever prepared for the roller coaster ride of passion.

Being addicted to one's passion is a helpless endeavor.

Enjoy the day!

Amani Utembu from Nairobi -Kenya on April 28, 2020:

The song.... Compliments the words..

Nicely penned

Mitara N from South Africa on April 28, 2020:

A tug-of-war of emotions mixed in your splendid write.

Are we ever prepared for the ride of passion and love that comes with a cycle of roller coasters?

That is one question that will never have a set answer

Thanks for sharing Brenda,

Take care, keep well and be safe

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 21, 2020:

Nithya,

You describe it well.

Thank you for your kind comment and for reading.

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on April 21, 2020:

A roller coaster ride of emotions in play, so nicely penned.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 19, 2020:

Oh Ms. Dora,

You are so right!!

May Heaven help them!

That intimate passion can burn you every time.

Thanks for reading. I love reading your comments.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on April 18, 2020:

This kind of addiction comes after they have connected at the deepest level of intimacy. It can be self-destructive because the passion and the hate last longer than the love. Heaven help them!

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 18, 2020:

Kyler,

I know the feeling. The power of that passion is way too strong.

I had never heard that song before but it totally fits this poem.

Glad you are finally away from her and survived, but I totally understand the desire to play.

There is a thin line there.

Have a great day.

Kyler J Falk from Corona, CA on April 18, 2020:

Funny you should include a song one of my exes dedicated to me, "Love the Way You Lie," because this poem absolutely encompasses how we felt about one another. I stayed with her even after she cut my neck open so deep that I still have the scar. I hate her so much, but at the same time I would probably play with our passions once more.

A wonderful poem, Brenda.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 18, 2020:

Ruby,

Yes, I have heard that cliche.

Sometimes we hate the ones we love, yet we love the ones we hate.

It's a very thin line.

Gets beneath one's skin.

Thanks for reading.

Stay safe out there.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on April 18, 2020:

You know that old cliché, love, hate there's only a thin line separating the two. I can relate.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 18, 2020:

Thanks Lorna,

I believe there was a comedy about this I love to hate you.

The songs I picked out for this one seem to fit. I am delighted you like them.

I am pleased to know my words conveyed this addiction. It was a bit difficult to put into context.

Thank you for reading.

I always look forward to your view.

Have a great day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 18, 2020:

Chitrangada,

This could be true.

Love and hate being two sides of the same coin.

I love that analogy.

Thanks for reading.

Have a pleasant day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 18, 2020:

Bill,

I hear that one.

In our younger days those flames fueled by passion are easier to handle.

Glad to hear they are behind you.

Have a great day.

Lorna Lamon on April 18, 2020:

I love to hate you comes to mind when I read this poem Brenda. You have managed to convey this addiction really well and I loved it. A great choice of music.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on April 18, 2020:

Interesting poem, well expressed.

Love, indeed is full of contradictions. Love and hate are two sides of the same coin.

Thanks for sharing this.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on April 18, 2020:

I do remember a couple relationships, back in my Twenties, which were very much like this poem. Glad those are in the rearview mirror. :)
