Poem: Adapting Behavior

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

This is my response to the word prompt, " Adapt" from "Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 52."

Here recently I've been learning the meaning of this word.

I've learned so many new things like how to mow the yard or operate a drill, even spackling.

In any case, I hope you enjoy these poems.

"Life Changes ~ Thomas Rhett"

Adapt ~ An Acrostic Poem

Adjust your normal routine
Dive headfirst into the unknown
Allow yourself to learn
Practice until you get it right
Tolerate change

Life Tosses a Wrench

It’s funny how she goes through life
with her feet planted in cement keeping a steady course
with no thoughts of changing her direction.

Living with the mentality
“If it’s not broke don’t fix it”
gets her by
until life tosses a wrench in her path
forcing her footsteps to change.

Realizing too late
there’s no such thing
as dividing man’s work or woman’s work
when she finds herself alone
learning how to manage those chores.

Thankfully there’s YouTube
to teach her a few tricks
helping her master a new process
to make everything seem simple and quick.

Learning to Adapt

It’s like being in a rowboat
trying to paddle your way through
rough waters and rapids.

Feeling like you’re being pulled under
quickly adapting
trying to stay afloat.

When you feel like tossing in the white towel
tears of desperation
thrust you forward.

Pushing yourself to the limit
learning a new way
until you find smooth sailing
day after day.

We have to adapt and overcome,

That's all we can do.
