Poem-A Halloween Themed Breakfast to Surprise the Kids- Response to Brenda Arledge’s Word Prompt Week 43-Breakfast
Halloween Day-Significance
As October 31st approaches, we start preparing for Halloween’s day. It is a fun time for adults and children. It is fun to watch the children dressed up in various scary costumes yelling “Trick or treat” and going about the neighborhood with buckets full of candy. It is believed that on Halloween day ghosts and spirits come and visit people which is quite scary. So, people wear scary costumes like that of witches, ghosts and movie characters and masks to frighten them. It is one of my granddaughter’s and my favorite festival too. She loves dressing up as various characters and go around with her friends collecting candies.
Halloween Costume
This year for Halloween, my granddaughter wore the costume of a princess and my daughter, that of a witch. She looked very cute in her yellow princess dress which her parents had got it specially for the occasion. She later told me that she had great fun and showed me the bounty of candies collected, which was strictly kept aloft by her dad lest she got sick of eating too much candy.
Word Prompts Help Creativity-Week 43-Breakfast
This week Brenda gave us the word prompt 'Breakfast'. At first I wondered what could I write about this word. Then I remembered the Halloween themed breakfast that we had planned on Halloween's day this year. So I decided to write about it.
My poem is based on this. Hope Brenda and my dear Hubber friends enjoy it remembering Halloween’s day and the fun they had with costumes, decorations and food.
Breakfast is everything. The beginning, the first thing. It is the mouthful that is the commitment to a new day, a continuing life
— A. A. Gill
Breakfast is a Must
Breakfast is my favorite food and I have learned from many sources through reading that we must never skip breakfast, if we want to stay healthy. I usually plan the previous evening itself as to what the next day’s breakfast would be and also keep all the items ready. This way there will be less stress in the mornings. Mornings can be quite hectic with getting the children ready for school, packing their lunch and snack boxes, and making them eat something at least before rushing to school. Then the office work, household chores. In this mad rush many times we even forget or do not get the time to have breakfast. So as Robert A. Heinlein says “One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast”.
What nicer thing can you do for somebody than make them breakfast?
— Anthony Bourdain
A Surprise Breakfast
What better way to surprise the children than a surprise Halloween themed breakfast to wake up to? So, we decided to plan a surprise breakfast for the children. We invited some of the children in the neighborhood and told them to keep it a secret. Many ideas were suggested by members of the family and at last we made a plan. We had to ensure that the breakfast was healthy and energizing as children tend to get excited and expend all the energy during this season. We included all the items the children loved. With a little creativity floating around, in the holiday atmosphere, we made a list of items to prepare and set out to get them. We were eager to see the expressions on the children’s faces on Halloween day.
Poem- A Halloween Themed Breakfast to Surprise the Kids
A surprise awaited the little ones
as we took our pumpkins and plums
and planned for a fun breakfast.
on Halloween day with full zest.
We invited some little monsters
To join our Halloween breakfast
First, we made avocado toast
Followed by pumpkin tarts.
Don’t forget the mummy bagels
Chimed in my aunt in her voice nasal
Owl Halloween pancakes were added
To make the day special and gladdened.
Recommended
Let us add some spider web donuts
Just to spook the kids, dad chorused
They are sure to get impressed
When Halloween toast is never behind.
And for a protein paced dish
There was the spooky ghost
Hard boiled eggs, to energize them
On their trick or treat expedition.
For a good burst of Vitamin C and A
We added smoothies made
From strawberries and blue berries
Served in lantern shaped pumpkin cups.
We added white chocolate candy ghosts
Because children love candy the most
And we were all planned and set
for a Halloween themed breakfast.
What a great start to Halloween day
With healthy, spooky breakfast display
No tricks when it comes to these treats
That are spooky and fun to eat.
