Play Me Awake Tonight

Tonight, tonight, the mystic eyed river sounds
floating leaves, colors changed like a butterfly
though they can’t fly they know where to die
downstream where the ocean will explain why

New light streaming into an antique dust bowl
gathered together to soften my knees in prayer
peeled faded wall flower paper squinting its eyes
recognizing the boy who finally decided to care

Strings voiced sounds waking up my senses
give me a place to decide where I should roam
love shadows answering the call in my room
is it you I thought of or is God calling me home?
