Pine Grove

your absence did not follow your death
you passed without ever being known
there’s no need for sorrow
it would be to difficult to rationalize my tears
a youthful complexion indifferent to separation
your thoughtful touches only dreams
there were questions in my soul
I did not have the knowledge to ask
my immature mind fished for reasons
explanations unfolded in silence
even before the experiments
or the diseased scent of my youth
when friends drove stakes in my back
I leaned on a hunch
that you might want to know
that you’d listen to my life
