Pete the Parakeet
I recently bought a parakeet
He's green and yellow and his name is Pete
Now this parakeet (whose name is Pete)
Used to be really sweet
But now for some strange reason
Everyone he sees, Pete thinks is teasin' (him)
For when your hand, you stick in his cage
Pete goes into a terrible rage
He tries to crawl under his paper
Which for some reason Pete thinks is safer
But if on his perch you would rather he be
Just put on a record (Paul McCartney)
For when he hears it
He turns flips and sings
If you're lucky, he'll jump on his swing
I want him to trust me
Give kisses and speak
But what do you expect?
I've only had Pete a week!

Hi Jason! Thank you for your comment. I suppose my reply is better late than never huh? :-) Birds are amazing. Animals are amazing. Pete was sweet. I also had a blue one named Ringo with a completely different personality (Best and Starr) This was when I was in highschool. I am a full fledged (middle-aged) grown up now. . .

Hi Ruth. I hope all is well. I loved this super cute poem. Parakeets are cool birds. We use to own a parrot named Chubs. It was an amazing bird with a big personality. They get really attached to people. I'm sure Pete will be an amazing pet too.

I knew I would receive a "snappy" comment from Kyler concerning records. Ha ha ha
Then again, Kyler is a pretty smart guy...
Yea, I know vinyl is more popular these days. Years ago I had heard a story about some kids that played a record thru and thought the song they wanted was not on it, until their dad explained that they needed to turn it over. They had been thinking of CDs which have only one side. :-)
Bushra thanks! Where's Grammarly when you need it? Maybe I ignored that one... :-)

I think you should switch 'him be' for 'he be'. Good poem!

There are more records and record players in the hands of young hipsters than there ever were when they were actually considered top-notch tech! So boo on you, hahahaha!
A very funny poem, though, birds are some of the greatest pets in the world; if not some of the saddest when their owners never let them out of their forced-confinement.
