Petals of a Dying Rose

The smell of roses still reminds me of you.

I recognize that my blood, heart, and soul are all rooted here.

When I found you, I found myself.

I always thought I'd be dead by 18.

But here we are...

We have come so far...

Yet we have lost so much...

Like petals of a dying rose our love falls away from us and crumbles into dust.

My heart has been tossed like a ship in a raging storm and mislay at sea.

Chains for which you have bound me are now broken.

I am no longer anchored to you.

Our love is undone.

Crezyl, thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. Love can certainly be a rollercoaster of emotions. It has its twists and turns. It can even throw us for a loop. But in the end, I believe love is worth taking a chance on. Even if it hurts sometimes.

Applause to you, this is a great piece❤ this poem is sad, as mine too. Why loving is sometimes a curse? Hahahaha. Anyways, I love it❤❤

This is so sad. When i found you, I found myself and now for this love to be crumbled into dust.

The chains are broken...

This is an exceptional write full of feelings.

Lora thank you very much for commenting on this poem. I really appreciate all of your compliments. Also, I only use original images, the rose is one I drew for my wife back in 2005. On the back of the picture I wrote in calligraphy, "you are even more lovely than a rose."

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on December 06, 2019:

A real clash of emotions here. Nice work Jason.

This is a very powerful poem, Jason. I like the metaphors of the dying rose and the ship at sea. You describe the intense passion that was there in the beginning with vivid imagery and then how it goes through a turbulent period finally ending in the death of love. Great write!
