Out of Sight - A Poem

you once promised me
that you’d place galaxies
in the dark space I dwell in
but all I needed was you
to keep the darkness at bay

you moved planets and stars
to make the emptiness seem beautiful
but the darkness ran too deep
so you tried to bring me back down to earth

I didn’t budge out of fear
and you let go

I floated back out
amongst the constellations
and hid away

clinging onto the memories
of a shared promise and whisper of love
they echo loudly and fill the vast space I linger in

I dream that you stay close enough
watching and waiting for me to reach out to you
I dream that you hope for me
to come back down to you

but when I awaken there’s a distance and it aches
you're far out of sight and I wonder
have you cut the cords that our souls are entangled in
or are we still connected
do you still feel each breath of darkness I take
as it floods through us both
