Only Wanted to be Loved

only-wanted-to-be-loved

It wasn’t my choice to be conceived.

Maybe it’s what you believed

how a daughter should be perceived.

I only wanted to be loved.

You always called me her or she

not the name you christened me

Is this the way it was meant be?

I only wanted to be loved.

I don’t know what I did wrong.

You made me feel I don’t belong.

Why couldn’t we just get along?

I only wanted to be loved.

you think that now you can atone

because your old and all alone.

I’m sorry but that bird has flown

I only wanted to be loved.

I was moved by this poem Charlie and it's true you only reap what you sow in life. Children should be cherished and loved. Beautiful poetry.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on October 26, 2020:

Very sad, Charlie. A well-written poem, expressing deep emotion.
