Seashore

Kulsum Afia is my pen name. I am currently doing my MD residency. I write only on topics that inspire me. Hope you enjoy my work !

The waves as they break on the shore,

Crash, foam, recede and come back for more,

Makes me appreciate the beauty in the monotony,

Comparing it to life, its ups and downs and its symphony.

It is there one moment, and gone the next,

Whatever be the reason, there is always a pretext.

The sand as it slips from the grip of my fingers,

Much like life’s moments, that never forever linger,

The words that were left unsaid, the deeds that were left undone,

The broken hearts that never received an apology,

The unspoken desires of this odyssey,

You have but a lifetime to fulfill the unfulfilled,

A lifetime that like the sand, away spills.

The sun as it sets in the horizon beyond,

And how it stays set till the dawn,

Come thunder, lightning, rain or storm,

Much like the wrongs once done, cannot be righted,

The friendships broken, and the people lost, cannot be guided.

Makes me realise the fragility of life and everything within it it beholds,

Have no misgivings and hold not a grudge,

For life is small, but the guilt forever holds.

I love the ocean these feelings that you speak about are true. How curious it is that the ocean can provoke such meaningful things about life don't you think?

Great piece.
