Manatita is an esteemed author living in London, UK. He writes spiritual books, flash fiction and esoteric poetry, his favourite genre.

Wisdom from the Master

"Sacrifice does not mean that by giving we lose something. We sacrifice our limited self, to our highest and largest Self. At that time, we immediately become the highest and the largest Self." - Sri Chinmoy

A Free Verse Sonnet-Ode

Mother's sacrifice

Mother's sacrifice

Earth’s bleeding selflessness; heaven’s dancing gain.

Hope carves its fortitude and resilience

On thy Spirit, soaked with gracious dignity,

Holding thy head erect as you remain awake.

Sweetness, affection … devotion you embody,

Emerging – as if from an embryo – with dauntless Light!

Stumbling, you rise again, your glowing concern,

Filled with the tenderness of maternal beauty.

Wedded to service, your charisma lustres

Like the moon, placing thy gracefulness

On the river of servitude, diamonds dripping

From the raiment of your soul.

Still you rise, a shining jewel of priceless worth,

Leaving a trail of endless sacrifice, at the feet of Love.

Yes, yes. You are increasing rapidly your understanding of my poems. When I use 14 lines, it is like a condensation of an entire book … of clouds. When they part, you see the entire blue sky. Thank you so much, my dear. Have a great evening.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on November 08, 2018:

I know I say it repeatedly, and it is true. The power in the phrases you create is uniquely excellent. Here, "bleeding selflessness" and "river of servitude" conjures up a devotion which could hardly describe anyone other than a mother. Brilliant!

You are probably an inner disciple of Sri Chinmoy. Ramakrishna had householder disciples. There are many immortal books in the Sri Ramakrishna Mission, but two stand out as among my favourites. One is called They Lived With God and the other God Lived With Them.

One is about the householder disciples. Pure, unsullied, chaste, wise … devotional. One-pointed and in tune with the Master's Consciousness. You remind me of them. Love to your family. Jai to the Love of the Heart! Joy to the Bliss of Infinity! More Joy to The Absolute Supreme!

My dear Brother, I am grateful for your poem because you served well our Sisters and the Soul. Magnificent poem! But in my eyes and my soul burn those words:

"Sacrifice does not mean that by giving we lose something. We sacrifice our limited self, to our highest and largest Self. At that time, we immediately become the highest and the largest Self." - Sri Chinmoy

Thank you for the chance to read them!

Thankful for your Spirit!

Manatita, this appeared on Facebook today. I hope you do not mind if I share:

When God created woman he was working late on the 6th day.......

An angel came by and asked." Why spend so much time on her?"

The lord answered. "Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?"

She must function on all kinds of situations,

She must be able to embrace several kids at the same time,

Have a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart,

She must do all this with only two hands,"She cures herself when sick and can work 18 hours a day"

THE ANGEL was impressed "Just two hands.....impossible!

And this is the standard model?"

The Angel came closer and touched the woman

"But you have made her so soft, Lord".

"She is soft", said the Lord,

"But I have made her strong. You can't imagine what she can endure and overcome."

"Can she think?" The Angel asked...

The Lord answered. "Not only can she think, but she can also reason and negotiate."

The Angel touched her cheeks...

"Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her"

"She is not leaking...it is a tear" The Lord corrected the Angel…

"What's it for?" Asked the Angel......

The Lord said. "Tears are her way of expressing her grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering, and her pride."...

This made a big impression on the Angel,

"Lord, you are a genius. You thought of everything.

A woman is indeed marvelous"

Lord said."Indeed she is.

She has a strength that amazes a man.

She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens.

She holds happiness, love, and opinions.

She smiles when she feels like screaming.

She sings when she feels like crying, cries when happy and laughs when afraid.

She fights for what she believes in.

Her love is unconditional.

Her heart is broken when a next-of-kin or a friend dies but she finds the strength to get on with life"

The Angel asked: "So she is a perfect being?"

The Lord replied: "No. She has just one drawback

She often forgets what she is worth."

No you're not. My Heart wanted to offer it to him, but equally I see your point. The poem was first called 'woman' and was inspired by a very different rendition on Saturday night called 'Black Woman.' The poetess noticed that there were white faces in the audience and then said it was for women in general. We all laughed as she was very sweet

I'm always extolling the virtues of women. Mother's a lot, but women in general. We men can appreciate this Dana. Don't you think so? (Sweet chuckle) Read your last dedication. Hari Om!

Dana Tate from LOS ANGELES on November 05, 2018:

Beautiful poem- it seems like a poem dedicated to a selfless, sacrificing mother but its a soulful offering to "Mr. Happy." Am I missing something?

This is a very nice poem. In the Ukraine on March 8, they celebrate Women's Day. Federal services are closed. it is a day where people give talks and it is customary for men to give the women in their lives flowers and thank them.
