My Parents: When Love was Dance and Dance was Love

In 2016 words began tumbling onto the page, forming songs of heartspeak. Giving birth to a love of writing poetry and ecclectic articles.

My time capsule took me to the years when dance was love and love was dance for my parents.

I loved that my parents loved to dance.

Every Saturday night was their night. Their date night. This was the night they would go dancing with their Italian friends. I couldn’t wait for the following day to learn about their night.

This poem pays homage to my parents, to dance, to music, fun and innocent sexiness.

Here are two songs that are a signature of this period. They are the Italian songs of “Quando Quando” and “Volare”.

Is there a time or quality that you loved about your parents? Maybe its time to pay homage to them.

The poem goes like this…..

My Parents: When Love was Dance and Dance was Love

I love those Saturday nights

where my parents had a date night

every Saturday was their ignite

they shared with their Italian friends of excite

I loved watching my parents

getting ready for their night jubilant

it was their ritual

it was our family’s habitual

my mother’s blonde hair

wore a beehive with flair

framing her arched

scorpionic eyebrows starched

sky blue eyes of attraction

her skirt hugging her body with passion

her shapely legs of light

flaunted by slinky stiletto’s with height

dad showered and dressed in a jiff

pride taken in his appearance in a whiff

keeping his tanned face

shaven and shining like a showplace

dad’s smile was bedazzling

the room would swizzle

his shoes sharp and polished

he was going somewhere coolish

as my parents left the house

they looked grouse

giggling like excited

teenagers of the night

dad and mum were the ones

on the dance floor to forerun

the way for others to dance

their sexiness distinguishee

dad made mum shine on the dance floor

fine spins and swirls were theirs galore

parting and uniting closely

being the breath of each other’s metamorphosis

There is "something" about dance and music. Lovely to hear how your parents loved each other and dancing kept their love alive, Gypsy Rose.

Wonderful tribute to your parents. I remember my parents also enjoyed going out to dances with friends. They too were very much in love. Thanks for the memories.

Awesome! I love it! My parents met at a dance :)

My dad sang to my mom and me. He sang well.

      I love poetry.

      Nicely done

Saturday night was family dance night. Push the furniture to the side and turn on the Wurlitzer. I loved it when mom and dad got all gussied up.
