My Mental Discipline -- My Happiness: A Poem

Val enjoys writing rhymed poetry with a valuable message in it.

Happiness is dependent on self-discipline. We are the biggest obstacle to our own happiness. It is much easier to do battle with society and with others than to fight our own nature.

-- Dennis Prager

Attempt to explain how strawberries taste

to someone who never tried them before

is nothing really but a total verbal waste

but it could also refer to so much more.

Like this mental discipline of mine

not allowing anything like self-neglect

its creative touch is bordering with divine

causing profound happiness as its side effect.

With no tolerance for any emotional crap

and garbage attitudes of a self-defeat

my spirited path uses my own map

with marks of some biggies' feet.

"Mind is obedient servant, but cruel master"

it's so long that I adopted this eternal fact

liberated from weight I can move faster

and fly over crap making others react.

I don't waste my nerves on things I can't control

while no one is really asking for my approval

it's simply such a good fun observing it all

not counting on major stupidity removal.

It's all about living consciously by my own choice

not by knee-jerk response to an outside event

I'm always ready to listen to that inner voice

guided by a clear cut and a willful intent.

Acceptance or even surrender is an illusion

generated by many an inert and lazy mind

so I am staying loyal to my firm conclusion

discipline brings joy of some greatest kind.
