My Love for Hawaii: A Poem
As a little boy living in a European land
I grew under a spell of my romantic soul
and it couldn't be without a higher hand
that some of my dreams reached a goal.
I can't explain why Hawaiian music did it to me
as if I had dwelled there in my past incarnation
but then when I also saw islands in the movie
my initial fondness turned into a fascination.
It was not until my seventh decade
that my foot made touchdown in that Eden
and as if I had wished harder or daily prayed
its beauty looked like temptation by gods forbidden.
Is it volcanic soil's electromagnetic field
or a likeness to Lemuria, magic ancient land
but after that lengthy flight I got instantly healed
feeling my boyhood's dream at the reach of hand.
All those magnificent sunsets and dancing hula girls
an ambient of ease, and language of dozen letters
all looking precious like some rare Pacific pearls
unchaining from age and cutting off my fetters.
For any of you who have already been there
it may look nothing more than a boyish fixation
but to be honest with any of you, I don't really care
as a mere thought of Hawaii gives me an instant elation.
