My Eyes Strayed Too Far

I made it this far in age, so did the sun
Was I prepared or was the road just paved?
You could say I drove a car with my eyes closed
Only the walls I missed know why I was saved

The roundabout took me places I thought I’d seen
But I was just looking over my shoulder
The past rode in the back where it belonged
I knew where I was going so my eyes became bolder

When I said I’m not
You said I think you are
This time, I’ll listen to what your eyes say
From the truth of what I am, my own strayed too far

I want to say our age is only time together
I won’t count what happened in between
If we just met then we’re children at heart
Let me push you on the swing

I’m not a mystery when I’m talking
Don’t let that get in the way
If you want to guess what happens next
I’ll try not to let on what I’m trying to say

When I said I’m not
You said I think you are
This time, I’ll listen to what your eyes say
From the truth of what I am, my own strayed too far
