The Patriot's Fallen

Updated on November 24, 2017

Hard won though the days of yesterday were
and the promise of tomorrows will be no more
something changed along the way
way back and back before

What became of the glint of the soldier steel
the hint of pride in the blue coats eye's
the calling when men stood as one
before the dawn brought new surprise

A dawn of dark wanting's through a balance lost
selfish desire of that freedom's gain
what happened to the seer and the powders scent
a soldiers march in rain

No one stands in a line yet formed no cry
to injustice nor enemy born of hate
it seems all the children were taught to feel
for the old one's the chance too late

No one carries the torch for glory nor time
the tallow runs unburned
we'll hide in darkness forever more
the battle lessons all unlearned

What have you taught but lesson's to weakness
what's he learned but to run to the cellar fair
put down your head and guard your ground
how long before you care

Does he remember the parades and the candy thrown
or the strength of will and calling
did he see the soldier marching or care to
hear the patriot fallen

Dude this is awesome! read it a few times. Seems like more than one meaning can be gleamed. "what's he learned but to run to the cellar fair

put down your head and guard your ground

      how long before you care"

Well on this day I sit grateful for those who care.
