Mother's Day Lament

I took these words off the lips and eyes of Old Mothers, New Mother’s, Unsure Mother’s, and Grandmother’s…

Told me not to write about one day of attention, one day of respect, and one day where everybody seems concerned about their feelings and emotions…

Told me to write about that inner pool that many of them are drowning from…

Told me to tell the stories of the heart on this MOTHER’S DAY…

Talk about the abuse, the children, and the need for financial and emotional support, and why the men won’t stay around…

I took it out of their tearful eyes… Stories that are daily, stories that have kept many of them stagnant and unsure of themselves…

Kept many of them chasing the wrong God, chasing the wrong companion just to make the loneliness end…

I took it out their eyes…Saw through the mask of fabricated smiles and the parade of hats that hid many tearful faces…

One of them broke down and the eyes couldn’t hide it…

Her trials were too deep and she needed to see, needed to be, in an atmosphere where women were being honored…

Where women with stories and trials like her, put them aside on This Day and accepted the attention, accepted the respect that All Mother’s are entitled to.

An so they came in droves looking like wounded angels…Smiling to mask the personal, daily pain, which no one knows but them and God.

Every step had its own story…

Honor your Mother or the one your heart calls Mom because when no one is around many of them breakdown...

I took these words off their eyes and it made my soul cry...
