Introduction

Aphorisms and lofty poetry, have from time immemorial, been a constant solace to us as humans and a joy to the heart and soul. The Psalms of David; the beatitudes of Christ ... the light of Rumi and the Seeress Mirabai, are lofty and sublime examples. They serve as Light to illumine, enlighten the understanding, to inspire and motivate … to reach the Heart.

Aphorisms of Sri Chinmoy

“You must never forget that greatness does not guarantee happiness but goodness always does.”

“Just as a rose has many petals, all of which add to the beauty and fragrance of the rose, so too the world shall become one world-family. Together we shall live in harmony in a spirit of self-giving for the good of all.”

“Gratitude is the sweetest thing in a seeker's life- in all human life. If there is gratitude in your heart, then there will be tremendous sweetness in your eyes.” - Sri Chinmoy

This Love. An 8-syllable Sonnet

This thrill of mines, a peerless prize,

I feel within, below … above.

Eloquence; soothing, is Its voice,

Lyrical notes of sweetness-Love.

Beauty, charm and heavenly traits;

Mellifluous notes; ceaseless Grace.

Lustred rays; ethereal gates,

Ascend my Heart; my soul embrace.

Riding the crest of virgin dawns,

Beloved’s music; golden flute.

Angelic moons and kindred suns,

Affection-charms and loving, cute.

Charisma, elegant and bright,

Pinnacle-gift of God’s Delight!

Give me a Selfless and Stronger Heart

Did you think you’d make it this far;

Transcend the dark clouds of anxiety,

Latching unto your thoughts like liquid glue?

Did you think you’d survive the grey veil of

Loneliness, tugging at your beautiful heart with disdain?

At last, you’ve seen the dawn, but not by chance.

The Master Weaver spins a tapestry of Light

And darkness, according to earth’s necessity.

The nightingales begin to sing again;

The symphony of starlings enchants our hearts.

Did you think you’d make it this far? When

Family Christmas was but a wonderful dream,

As the French closed their ports at Dover?

We stared the abyss of a variant stream,

And ascended the scales of a Tier!

Any sunset which seems to die, merely summons the

Night –a precursor to dawn or daybreak. Hope alive,

Becomes musical aspirations, for another sunrise. The flag of

Tomorrow lies in Time, on the lute of each sacred moment;

Stars twinkle; so the soul walks in solitude with the moon.

The next time the swan glides its elegant path,

Make sure you dance with the inner Alchemist,

Praising and worshiping the name of Love. A burning

Fire left alone, creates an intensity destroying life. Greed,

Grasping and complacency, creates seismic shifts in Gaia’s melody.

O Light, remove the predator-shadow in my heart.

The homeless builds boxes to survive the chill, while

In my dwelling warmth abounds. Some survive on hand-

Outs and chocolate bars, even as I gaze at shooting stars! O Love,

No need for a lighter burden, give me a selfless and stronger heart.

Aphorisms of Sri Chinmoy

“Hope is sweet. Hope is illumining. Hope is fulfilling. Hope can be everlasting. Therefore, do not give up hope, Even in the sunset of your life.

“Not to give up under any circumstances should be the motto of our life: I shall try again and again, and I am bound to succeed. There will be obstacles, but I have to defy the obstacles.”

“Remain cheerful, for nothing destructive can pierce through the solid wall of cheerfulness.” - Sri Chinmoy

Hard work. Mine has been moulded with 38 years of service to God in man, via travelling across 45 countries, some three hundred times. Combine this with daily oral and silent prayers plus regular retreats with Disciples of Love. Service is a very quick way to expand the spiritual Heart, the shrine of the soul. More blessings to you, Mary. Stay safe and blessed.

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on January 11, 2021:

Another great poem. It's a desire of mine, too. To have a selfless heart.

Good evening/Afternoon Peggy. Much Love.

Thank you for your kind and heartfelt sentiment. I have got to the point where I have recognised and is also in the process of accepting the struggle. The faith is already there that nothing happens without the sanction, approval or toleration of the Supreme. All this makes it so much easier! I see the turmoil, though and the greater need for prayer. Peace.

Farah N Huq from Dhaka, Bangladesh on January 09, 2021:

Loved both the pieces! We hope to find love and love is what keeps hope alive! Stay blessed!

Healers indeed, for they speak to our forgotten Pilot within. They can only say what we already are. Just reminding our Hearts, that's all. Thank you so much!!

Beautiful and inspiring thoughts. The words of wisdom from the spiritual gurus are in fact healers. Whenever we are distressed, they give us inner strength.

Thank you, Rosina.

How are you coping? What do you do? How's the family? Where are you? let me know by mail.

As always, I'm glad that you love Guruji's teachings. Guru ji says that whenever we read his writings with Love in our Hearts, he feels it and 'inwardly' helps us. (Whatever that means to you). He's a remarkable visionary. Your loving sentiments are always appreciated.

Rosina S Khan on January 09, 2021:

The sonnet was wonderful. I liked the second poem even better about a selfless and stronger heart. And Sri Chinmoy's wise quotes captivate me all the time. Thank you for sharing, Manatita.

manatita44 (author) from london on January 09, 2021:

Thank you, my Brother.

Happy you're now well.

I have read your Hub but I cannot find you as I usually do others. Rochelle has written about the numerous new and ill-equipped Hubbers. True. Because of this, I'm temporarily unfollowing Religion and Philosophy, as they clog up my mail. That may be why I'm not seeing you. I see everyone else. Love you, Bro.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on January 09, 2021:

Just beautiful my good friend.
