Misunderstandings - Poem

Vanita Thakkar is an Entrepreneur - an Engineer-Researcher-Consultant and an Artist - Singer-Composer-Poetess-Writer from Vadodara, Gujarat.

Misunderstood silences

Give rise to

The necessity of

Usage of words

And misunderstood words

Throw one back into

The darkness of silence

To dig out

Some more words –

better and more precise.

- Vanita Thakkar (From my old diary - written in 1991)

Afterthoughts and reflections from reviews obtained on this article on WhatsApp ....

  • Communication is the only way, if at all "mis"understandings have to get resolved.
  • Arjuna was an ideal friend and disciple of Shree Krishna. Still it took a discussion of 700 shlokas in 18 chapters of Shreemad Bhagwad Geeta for Shree Krishna to help him overcome his misconceptions and confusions.
  • When there are open minds and hearts involved, that have love and trust as a basis of the relationships, misunderstandings do not trouble. They bring people closer, together.

One interesting comment was :

.... Good relationships require big heart and short memories ....

I think, big hearts have good, long memories. Short memories are a sign of abnormality. We don't forget. It can be either of the following :

  • We might be indifferent / disoriented / ignorant
  • We might miss out on giving due attention
  • We might forgive / let go ....

Good discussions on this poem in my WhatsApp chat(s), especially with one of our old neighbours at Bongaigaon, Assam, Mr. Gupta (we were together about forty years back ....) I have added some excerpts of the chat in the article.

Very true, Chitrangadaji.

Misunderstandings do occur and the ones that are between close ones cause much disappointments and pains.

Thanks for your nice comments.

Lots of love and best regards to you.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on February 01, 2021:

Nicely expressed, and conveys a valuable message.

Misunderstandings do happen, and sometimes they are not resolved (sadly). And most of the times, it’s between the close ones.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, dear Peggy for your visit and comment.

These misunderstandings and miscommunications are probably major constituents of the so-called “web of the world” into which human life gets entangled and for finding a way out of which people take the path of renunciation / realisation and so on ....

Thanks, Brother Manatita for your insightful comment. True, right actions inspired by purity of intent and sincerity of purpose .... Best regards to you.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on January 30, 2021:

It is true that nonverbal messages can sometimes be misunderstood as easily as verbal ones. It is all in the delivery, tone, and body language.

Vanita, beautifully said and some great quotes. I always say ... the Heart ... the Heart. Purity of Intent, or Sincerity of Purpose, is everything! Om Shanti!
