The poet is a medical student with a weird sense of humour and spends a great deal of time exploring ways to flourish his cultural insight.
My Alma Mater
As the last rays of sun brushed my face, I witnessed
An unbelievably delighted kid, shouting or singing,
“Left right, left” and swinging his hands, as if marching.
As he vanished into the horizon,
I recalled some memories of mine, memories of
My glory days as a cadet, a proud Mirzapurian.
Mirzapur Cadet College, my alma mater, where
Teachers, staffs,house-bearers,guards and above all
We cadets, Ah! What a harmony we created
300 souls always together, be it
Morning PTs, tiresome Drills, Optional games or
Glorious Athletics, exciting muri-parties,Term-end dinners
The laughter we shared or the losses we mourned
Together still, never alone.
As years passed by,
Stripes of gold adorned our epaulettes of Red,Green & Blue
The thrills we enjoyed as each House trembled at
The roars of newly appointed JPs,
The jubilant shouts, “Frog jump start” or
The proud moments of “Soshostro salam”,
Still, after all this time, stand beyond comparison.
As these memories resurface each evening,
I'm left thankful to my Lord
For this trip of 6 years, blessings of my cadetship
Tears flow still as I quote
“Knowledge is Power, Hail Mirzapurians.”
Note from the Poet :
Mirzapur Cadet College is one of the most dignified military feeder educational institutions of Bangladesh .
Since 1965, students here, are being groomed up academically following the national curriculum approved by the government and special emphases are given on extracurricular and co-curricular activities. Thus, students of this institution have so far left remarkable marks on national development as well as earned Bangladesh a respectable place in the international arena.
I,being an ex-student of this glorious institution , take pride in calling myself a cadet as all my fellow cadet brotheren do. This poem is merely an attempt to express my endless gratitude to my alma mater where I spent the best 6 years of my life.
