Love Going Cold: A Rhyme With Food For Thought

Val enjoys writing his own style of what resembles poetry, just hoping to catch someone's heart on the same page.

Love will commit, or love will commit suicide.

-- Anthony Liccione

What happens with love when first flame is gone

when couple become just a habit to each other

years of just tolerating dragging on and on

so much to resent, so much to bother.

Not only at my age group of seventy and beyond

I see the young ones fresh from honeymoon

as they are losing that initial, happy bond

song of romance sounding out of tune.

Marriage based on love, now like an obligation

anniversaries forgotten, or a formality at best

so distant from those first years of elation

every little problem putting love on test.

As if using each other for a stress disposal bin

relieving their anger, boredom and frustration

oftentimes boiling down who will lose or win

kids being excuse for marriage salvation.

Maybe story of parents comes to mind

or friends that don't bother hiding it at all

resembling contract once wrongly signed

once raised to the pedestal, now time to fall.
