Introduction

This poem serves loosely as a metaphor for becoming a Christian. The conversion experience is both painful and beautiful, allowing yourself to be molded by something greater than yourself. It's also frustrating in that it's a journey that you have to take alone, and can't bring those you love with you.

Lose Me in the Ocean

Lose me in the ocean

never find me again

let the waters carry me

like gentle giants

to a land I've only dreamed

Here the sand sparkles

the sea glass shines blue brown green

waves refine garbage

beating me over and over

on a floor of gold

What's left of me is ready

to explore a hidden island

an abandoned lighthouse

overgrowth of beauty

life floating in and out

At the top there is a lantern

old and long gone out

broken windows frame

the immensity of clouds

If I weren’t new I would know

how to make fire

light the lantern

save your ship from being battered

by the same waves that saved me

Somewhere deep down I remember

rub two sticks together

but here there are no sticks

so the most human part of me

will have to watch you silently

shatter against the rocks

Like "Lose Me in the Ocean?"

This poem and others can be found in my chapbook, At War With the Fireflies. Available on Kindle and in print.

I feel that way a lot sometimes. Don’t give up and keep praying for them. If the Lord presents an opportunity to share the gospel with your family, take it. But in the mean time, keep praying for Him to soften their hearts and open their eyes. I was the only Christian in my family, but last year Jesus opened my sister’s eyes to the truth. He is the only one who can change hearts, not us. It can be frustrating, but keep praying and be patient, and never be ashamed of the gospel or your testimony :) I’ll be praying for you and your family. God bless you.

For some reason, this reminds me of the situation I am in now. I am the only Christian in our family. I hope to be able to boldy share the gospel with them. I delayed and delayed the task to do so and now some of them are about to hit the rocks... :(
