I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida with my wonderful cat Sid.
They say you can never go home again,
but if the heart longs for a place,
that it has known all its life,
then feet have no choice -
but to stray that way.
Even though nothing might look the same
and the faces and names have changed,
walking along familiar boulevards and avenues,
let the winds of change -
blow you back into the past again.
As you go along,
let your imagination take over
and you’ll be like you once were,
back then when this was home.
No mirror to remind you,
of how time has gone by
and like Alice through the looking glass -
can you not see all that once went before?
As you go walking along,
it will seem like yesterday once more
and you’ll see what you wanted to see -
fill your heart with memories.
That is the only way you can go home again,
because time passes
and time changes so much,
only the love and the shadows of things that have been,
remain and forever in your heart shine,
so stray back whenever you have a mind to,
because if you truly want to -
you can go home again.

I agree with your lovely poem. There is no place like home though a lot has changed. Have a nice day Gypsy Rose.

That is so true, Bill and even though as a child I never wanted to listen to what mom said, I now wish I had mom to take care of me again.
You're welcome, Eric. Every time I put up my photos on the PC I go back to the places I really miss and once called home.
Thank you, Rinita.

Perhaps a wise man would say I go there too often. But my heart has never left my home. thank you for this wonderfully written piece.

I do a lot of that lately. It sure was simpler when I was a kid and had no responsibilities. :)
