Long Song Ago

The twisted wind slashed rainy days
seemed fair and sweet despite the sleet
and cold in days of old long song ago.
What made them so I don't know now
so exposed, do you suppose we dreamt it?
Lean rhymes, sad times, winter tides
washed with sighs, wizened, wise.
What was it, when we sang long song ago
that made it so, and why?
