Lightnings & Kisses
Since I was young I have always been fond of reading and writing. It is one the greatest source of comfort for me.
Since we were seven
You were always afraid of lightnings.
So whenever it rained
You would always seek my comfort.
You would always hold my hand
And I would always carress your cheek.
Cuddled in a warm blanket
Sipping on hot chocolate.
We would draw stick figures of us
And dream of a home
Where only sunshine exists.
When we were sixteen
You weren't that scared of lightnings anymore.
But you said you found a new fear
And that was the fear of losing me.
And whenever it rained
We would revisit all our childhood memories.
We would sing songs of love
And share sweet kisses
While the lightnings illuminate the night.
When we were twenty-one
A particularly bad storm hit our town.
So I rushed to your home
Worried that you'd still be scared alone.
But when I reached your doorstep
My tears fell along with the rain.
I saw you kissing a pretty girl
And swaying in each other's arms
Like leaves in the wind.
Finally, you've conquered your fears.
You were no longer afraid of lightnings.
You were no longer afraid of losing me.

Thank you for your kind words John. But who knows, the rain might bring them back together again.

What a great poem, sad ending though. Thanks for sharing.
