Life Now Soul Forever

As the leaves moved when we walked by
Did we know we were the reason why?
The sun is with us but is it something new?
Were you the light I saw, were you the sky?

I want you to open my eyes every morning
It’s a long winding wish I need to come true
It’s not only that I need our nights together
It’s the love I want to light inside of you

Time, a raging river that brings us together
Time, a slow hand clock stretches it further
We’ve lived so long without one another
I want our life now and our souls forever

You don’t belong to me, but my heart is yours
I give it freely, take it in trust for tomorrow
I will wake up again, knowing where it is
If there is a purpose tell me it’s not sorrow

Nobody should ever inherit my troubles
Yet your love caresses the scars that I own
If it is so, tell me what I did to deserve you
The only love my heart has never known

Time, a raging river that brings us together
Time, a slow hand clock stretches it further
We’ve lived so long without one another
I want our life now and our souls forever

Thanks to each of you, Brenda, Lorna and Isykariman. This poem is about the bittersweet realization that the one you love now (and who also loves you) could have been there for you over twenty years ago but the time wasn't right. Other choices were made. So it is a lament. A regret. But the good news is they both see it now.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on September 11, 2019:

Such a wonderful sentiment to the one you love.

I can feel your sadness lingering wanting to still share your nights.

Great poem.

Lorna Lamon on September 11, 2019:
