Life Is Funny That Way

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida with my wonderful cat Sid.

The night was over,

the light was dawning.

Somewhere deep inside,

her heart began aching.

For now her love lay sleeping,

but soon he’d be going away.

Seems that all they had to say,

had been said before -

isn’t life funny that way.

For now she could still sadly smile,

later she no longer,

would be able to hide the tears.

So many now wasted years,

always love seemed to be there,

then after so much time –

came the silence.

Smiles no longer shared,

both lost in deep thoughts,

no one to say I love you,

there was no closeness anymore –

isn’t life funny that way.

So many dreams shared,

now scattered to the winds,

so many times,

loving till the light of day.

Now there was nothing,

nothing at all left,

just waiting for the day to begin,

waiting to say good-bye –

isn’t life funny that way.

Thank you, Eric.

Thank you, Genna I was lucky to find that photo.

The photo of what looks like a midnight rose matches the beauty of this poem.

This was worth the second read. The living death is palpable.
