Leave Yesterday Behind

Poetry is turning out to be a very cathartic medium, I should do this more often.

Set the Mood

You have to lay in the bed you make for yourself, and you have no one to blame but yourself.

You have to lay in the bed you make for yourself, and you have no one to blame but yourself.

You shook my hand the day we met,

From that point my mind was set.

Our future was awaiting yet,

So let's leave yesterday behind.

We went out on our first date,

A game we played with interlaced fate.

For you, my love, I'd always wait,

So let's leave yesterday behind.

A gentle kiss upon your lips,

While my hands rested on your hips.

With every touch, my heart, it skips,

So let's leave yesterday behind.

By your grace I am entranced,

Gazed upon you as you danced.

In every word you shared romance,

So let's leave yesterday behind.

The day you left I died inside,

No one to wipe the tears I cried.

Wish to take back when I lied,

So let's leave yesterday behind.

The blame upon you I cannot place,

I only wish to see your face.

Your absence made an empty space,

So let's leave yesterday behind.

I failed our love and now you're gone,

To greener pastures, and a brighter dawn.

Bed of my making I now lie upon,

All the sorrows and memories of every yesterday.

Thanks, Brenda!

To the amazing Brenda Arledge, I thank you for the inspiring word prompt. It took me quite some time to come up with something I felt hit the mark for decent, but I think I managed to do it!

I've been unfaithful in the past, and I was so knowing the pain of betrayal. It is a pain that no one deserves to feel, and yet it is all-too-common to know such a pain. We can repeat the past over and over, dwelling in it with every thought and action, or we can move into the future better than we were yesterday.

Let's make yesterday count, so that tomorrow will make for an even better yesterday!

@Brenda: Heck yeah, make every today be the best yesterday it can be! I thank you for the inspiration, as it is the reason this little piece was produced. Word prompts are fun, and I am going to try more as time goes on.

Kyler,

It took me a bit of searching, but I finally found this one under the news feed.

Your poem "Leave Behind Yesterday " for the word prompt "Yesterday " in week 3 is totally Awesome!

Your words take us through that wonderful feeling of love that we take for granted as we leave yesterday behind.

But once that love disappears due to the lies of yesterday, our hearts are broken beyond repair.

This poem gives us both joy & sadness. It is very touching.

I love that you state we should make our yesterday count so that tomorrow we can have an even better yesterday.

Great writing! Yes! Yes, you should write more Poetry.
