Laughing at Ourselves: A Rhyme with Message

Val enjoys writing his own style of what resembles poetry, just hoping to catch someone's heart on the same page.

Laugh my friend, for laughter ignites a fire within pit of your belly and awakens your being.

-- Stella McCartney

Something in myself liked Groucho Marx

and I like his newer version, Don Rickles

their routine being full of stinging sparks

turning some sweet lollipops into pickles.

A part-time student of Zen-like teaching

I laugh at ego, most loudly at my own

mocking political and other preaching

not being anyone's intellectual clone.

It's not easy to count on reader's trust

that they will not take it as an offence

those expressions of pure satirical lust

but appealing to their humorous sense.

I am aware, while writing many a satire

I often make some unwelcome intrusions

hoping that some of it may merely inspire

for laughing at some reader's own illusions.

There is nothing like malicious and mean

in turning something serious into a joke

it's only humor, provocative but clean

no matter what feelings it may evoke.

So, let us learn to laugh at our pretending

at our many masks and all that we're not

that's but the only message I'm sending

to those who never tried to laugh a lot.
