Lakmé

Author:

Many days have passed
since the birth of the sun. I'm alone now
Up in the sandy mountains. Down below,
There is the serpentine river and
the treacherous desert.
At night, I come down
through the windy road, and spread
a carpet on the red sands.

Life has passed by me
like the flow of a coffee machine: nowadays
I spend my time teaching piano
To a black girl; her mother
works in the Lakmé
company.

The horizon is golden
and without the sky. The sky has
become a ball of goat~meat. I am
a vegetarian and I do not like it
even a bit.
I read the poems of Omar Khayyam
and read them loud so that my neighbors
can hear them. One neighbor
brought with her a freshly baked
chocolate cake last Sunday.
I told her, the sun is (very soon) about to
evaporate.
