Kissed by the Sunset

I don't want to stand with the setting sun, not being able to look myself straight in the eye.

I don't want to hate myself at the end of the day for things I've done or not done.

I don't want the setting sun to find my closet shelf full of unhealed secrets about myself.

I want the setting sun to find me with my head held high so that I may be kissed by the sunset.

Kissed By the Sunset, continued

I can never hide myself from me.

I can never fool myself, because I know what others may never know.

I am my own shadow, that wake me each morning, stands with me all day, and on until the evening.

Like sparkling water kissed by the sunset, I want the end of the day to find my reflection transparent and clear and beautiful.

Creation of Kissed by the Sunset, Part 2

Caressing Kiss of Love

Like the setting sun, glowing bright red, as it caresses velvety pink cotton candy clouds or as the deep magenta magic adds color to the depths of the ocean and the waves as they lap the sand.

I see the clouds part and the sunset light beams through.

I hear the river, as it flows gently by.

The sky becomes like a gilded ruby, as the red-orange sun slowly recedes.

The sky whispers to the approaching night, "Hold me in your caressing kiss of love," looking ahead to a starry night.

I am overwhelmed by the many sensations that the setting sun evokes in me.

That Sunset Was Just For You!

As the sun fades into the distant sky, I gaze up at the stars.

They wink at me, as if to say, "That sunset was just for you."

The shooting star that follows is filled with love, echoed by the slow rise of the full moon into the night sky.

I'm touched by your words.

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on March 01, 2021:

Gina, this is absolutely beautiful. Your wonder and emotions drive the flow, painting a picture that only the soul can see.

Stupendous poetry!

Gina Welds Hulse (author) from Rockledge, Florida on March 01, 2021:

Thank you. I was a little hesitant about putting myself out there, but I am working on that. I believe vulnerability is all a part of the intimacy that Manatita referenced in his comment.

Gina Welds Hulse (author) from Rockledge, Florida on March 01, 2021:

Thanks, Brenda! I always say that God paints these beautiful images across the sky just for me. I know it's for everyone, but I like to believe it's just for me. (smile)

That is such a treasured compliment, Manatita, coming from a poet that I admire so much, and am always so touched and inspired when I read your poetry.

Beautifully expressed poem. Enjoyed reading it, honest thoughts about self, with beautiful painting and videos. Something unique and interesting.

Thank you for sharing.

You remind me of British romanticism, Gina, the earlier poets. Softness, tenderness, affection, intimacy and the Heart's admiration for beauty. A Charming piece!

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on February 28, 2021:

Wonderful poem.

I like the part about the stars winking to you...the sunset is just for you &

I am my own shadow.

Beautiful thoughts in this writing.
