The Puzzle About Food Chain in Nature: A Rhyme to Entertain

Val enjoys writing his own style of what resembles poetry, just hoping to catch someone's heart on the same page.

We now eat at the end of a very long and opaque food chain. Food comes to us ready-made in packages that obscure as much information as they reveal.

-- Michael Pollan

Let me admit how little of the nature I understand

like, this thing about food chain comes to mind

unnecessary, no matter how well it's planned

involving eaters and eaten of different kind.

I mean, animals solely existing to be food of others

but why where those "others" created in first place

now, it's not some enigma that particularly bothers

but it's a kind of curiosity that I can't simply erase.

Moreover, why animals at all, shouldn't we wonder

I mean, why weren't we designed to be plant eaters

that's yet another thing that at idle times I may ponder

thinking often about all those ugly and crawling critters.

I can't just ascribe this poor reasoning to a god

for, no matter how "mysterious" his work may be

this huge variety of living species seems to be odd

again -- I mainly mean ugly ones from a crock to a flea.

I'm not kidding, since nature appears to be so smart

to orchestrate all this complicated life on Earth

how could it have such a lack of a heart

to let lion kill his offspring at birth.

You see, whether I think Darwin or a god

I find it sometimes a little hard to agree

nature is looking like one grand fraud

or it seems so to the ignorant me.
